I've put a little webpage summarizing the printer dot situation and
encouraging people to call into their printer manufacturers to complain.
This is motivated in part because of some bullying by the US Secret
Service of at least one person who asked to have the featured turned
off.
I called myself yesterday and had a long talk with an HP representative
who looked at the web page on the phone and seemed generally concerned
and surprised. He told me that he would talk to the other techs there and
they would try to put together a memo to send to their management. I
think it's really worth others doing this as well.
Part of why these dots exist is because there is no cost to the
manufacturers to put them on. Putting pressure on manufacturers helps
change that. Explain that you are unhappy and will buy future printers
from a company that allows you to use a printer with no intentionally
identifiable information in its output. Also, spread the word so that
others call too.
The website is online at: http://seeingyellow.com/
